Transformer core made of laminated sheets provides the magnetic circuit for the flow of magnetic flux mutually linking the electrical circuits. As against the air core, iron core provides a comparatively low reluctance path to the magnetic flux with consequent benefit of (a) smaller magnetizing current, (b) increase in the total flux linkage and (c) a high ratio of mutual to leakage flux resulting in reduction of stray losses.
