FUTURE ATE DIRECTIONSThroughout the 50-year history of the semiconductor industry, its innovation and growth have been fueled by rapid technical evolution based on Moore's law, which in 1965 predicted that the number of transistors that could be incorporated in an integrated circuit would double every year. The model 500 transistor tester was one of the early programmable automatic testers, which used vacuum tubes to test transistors. Over the years, testers kept pace with the development of the ICs, but the tester technology was always older than the device technology it was supposed to test.
