CONCLUSIONS
CONCLUSIONSNanotechnology is an extremely diverse, multidisciplined, and rapidly changing area of science and engineering that promises to revolutionize many products as well as enable new and better products. This chapter has provided a high-level review of nanotechnology, its somewhat complicated history, attempted to explain how things are made, given some insight into the possibilities, and provided reasons for concern of the unknown health, safety, and environment impact of this technology. Importantly, nanotechnology is enabling new developments in manufacturing to shrink ICs as well as providing new materials and capabilities. This is allowing the IC industry to continue along Moore's law thereby providing their customers with increased performance and lower costs. Nanotechnology is also promising …
