1010603 Outdoor High-voltage SwitchyardAn outdoor high-voltage switchyard is provided to receive power supply from the local power company at extra high-voltage and step it down to the primary distribution voltage. For industrial systems an outdoor switchyard is used for 11 kV and above. For residential and commercial systems an outdoor switchyard is generally used only when the supply is above 33 kV; for lower voltages an outdoor switchyard is not used because of space constraints and aesthetics. Not many manufacturers produce 33 kV switchboards, so this could also be a reason for using an outdoor switchyard when the supply voltage is 33 kV.
