Insulation Supervision The insulation of electrical apparatus and lines, etc. is designed and operated at a specific standard service voltage. It is also designed to operate continuously at voltages 10–15 per cent higher than the rated value to cover the possibility of such voltage appearing under certain conditions of operation. In addition, the electrical equipment must also be able to withstand short time overvoltages, such as switching and lightning surges.
