AcknowledgmentsIt is very hard to say when the writing of this book started. I initially became interested in digital image analysis when I was doing my master’s thesis research at the University of Waterloo and later at the Canadian Centre for Remote Sensing. At the beginning of my teaching career, Peng Gong generously shared his lecturing material with me. His material on the topic of image segmentation has been revised and incorporated in this book.
