Introduction Integrated fixed-film activated sludge (IFAS) facilities are those that incorporate a fixed-film process component (a biofilm growth) within activated sludge basins. The IFAS facilities operate with a level of MLSS concentration similar to CAS systems with a sludge age that improves sludge settleability and provides carbonaceous removal, nitrification, and/or BNR.
