Preface
PrefaceDaniel wrote the preface to the first edition of this book in mid-2000. At that time, the United States was still enjoying a long period of economic growth, and the telecommunications industry was one of the greatest beneficiaries of the expansion. New companies were using new technologies, such as Voice over IP (VoIP), to compete with traditional telecommunications companies. The result was a wealth of choices for the customer. All was well, and the preface painted a very rosy future. Two years later, when the second edition of this book was published and with the dotcom crash impacting the telecommunications industry, it may have seemed that his predictions (like those of many others) might have been a little premature.As we write this preface to the third…
