ForewordWhen macroscopic amounts of the molecule C 60 and other fullerenes suddenly became available in 1990 and it was possible to probe the chemistry and physics of this unique material, one of the most fascinating and surprising spin-offs was the discovery of the nanotubes, which are the elongated cousins of the fullerenes. The fullerenes and nanotubes have given rise to vast new areas of carbon materials research.
