Today light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are increasingly used given their long life and efficient use of energy. Installing a brand new sign using incandescent lamps with mechanical flashers would be almost unheard of. However, this equipment is still in use, and will be covered so users will have a reference source in case they are called upon to service it.
