Configuration of Passenger Buildings
1011102Configuration of Passenger BuildingsThe selection of the configuration of terminal buildings is a crucial design issue. Inappropriate choices have hurt several major airports and their communities. Bad designs create difficulties for passengers and airlines; reduce the competitiveness of the airport; drive away traffic; and hurt the regional economy. Major examples illustrate this point.Airport planners and designers thus have great responsibility. They need to choose configurations of terminals that are right for their region. They should carefully consider the operational and economic implications of their designs. The purpose of this chapter is to guide this important process.
