Ways to Monitor Generator Output There are two ways to monitor the output of a generator. The voltage produced by the generator can be indicated by a voltmeter, or the current flow from the generator can be displayed by an ammeter. One or both of these instruments are usually mounted on the aircraft's flight deck so the pilot can monitor generator operation. If only one instrument is used, the ammeter is preferred.
