STARTER-GENERATORS
STARTER-GENERATORSA starter-generator is a combination of a generator and a starter in one housing as shown in Fig. 10-25. Starter-generators are typically employed on small turboprop and turbine-powered aircraft such as the Beechcraft King Air or Cessna Citation. Most starter-generators contain at least two sets of field windings and only one armature winding. While in the start mode, current is sent to the low-resistance field winding, which is connected in series with the armature. At this time, a high current flows through both the field and armature windings, producing the high torque required for engine starting.
