Magnetic Attraction and Repulsion The function of an electric motor is to change electrical energy into mechanical energy. The electrical energy is input to the motor as either alternating or direct current and the mechanical energy output creates a rotational force, or torque. All electric motors found on aircraft operate on the principle of magnetic attraction and repulsion.
